Beauty & the Beast

It’s been a while since I updated this blog; what with working on FPM and it’s also been a while since I finished a miniature. So here it is.

Figure Painter Magazine

Well finally the cat is out of the bag so I can tell everyone about my next big project, Figure Painter Magazine. I have teamed up with some very talented people and we aim to produce the best miniature based magazine out there.

FPM will be a monthly download, each issue available for the princely sum of £1 and will cover all genre’s and scales as well as sculpting, displaying and gaming.

Also we have our facebook page up and running where you can upload your painted miniature images to be published in the magazine and the best each month will win a resin display plinth courtesy of Model Display Products.

Work Bench Update

OTBImage
Check out my new project… It’s a bit of a beast!

Hello… Is there anybody there

I know it’s been ages since I have updated this blog but what with real life catching up with a bang, the illness of my mum and her subsequent passing, Portal getting evermore popular and other trivialities I haven’t managed to paint that much until recently. When I have had time I have made the most of it.
Here are the fruits of my labour.
FrontBackLeftRight
First up is Gauntfield from Reaper painted for last years Wyrd Miniatures Halloween contest.
FrontBack
Next came Gore Rot, painted for the 2011 Miniature Heroes contest. The blank base was because this was a contest where everyone who entered had to paint the same miniature.
BackFront1Front2LeftRight
Next came the Grudge, also painted for the miniature heroes contest but this one had to be by Reaper miniatures.
SideMontage
I have also painted Kaarstaruk from Maelstrom Games’ BaneLords range. this was for a contest on WAMP.

And Finally, Last man standing.

There are two stories behind this piece....

The first is of grizzled old warrior, proud and strong, who entered the dungeon with his comrades to liberate the treasure of the evil denizens that live there. After days of battling through dank corridors and trapped rooms that has done for all of his brothers in arms, he can see the treasure chest at the foot of the stairs so one last fight will see him rich beyond his wildest dreams...

LMSMontage

The second is of the miniature that spends most of it's days packed away in a gaming bag, brought out once a week to be pushed around a table, bashed with oddly shaped dice and splashed with soda and snacks. Teamed with other miniatures, one not even painted, in the fumbling attempt for it's owner to get to the treasure. Well its had enough, taken things into it's own hands, it's destiny is it's own and no way in hell is it going to share that treasure with those other miniatures, especially the unpainted one. So with a few swipes of it's axe... he's the Last Man Standing.

I painted this for WAMPS 2012 Hasslefree Miniatures contest. Love this mini! Bigger pics here [...link]

Fairies Wear Boots

I was lucky enough to get given a pre release version of Grey Matters Figures, Fairies Wear Boots. This mini so reminded me of my youngest sister Aimee who is a goth and prone to tantrums and it her birthday on the 12th Oct so I painted it up for here. The dress is a copy of the one she wore for her 21st last year and she had pink hair at the time.

The Bastard Prince

The title of the piece is "The Bastard Prince" and the story is that the young lad, brought up in distant castle finds out his true lineage the day his half brother takes the thrown and decides that the young lad is surplus to requirements so he has to defend himself. For those that don't know the miniature is "The Squire" from Stone Tower Miniatures (Cregans Company) and is sculpted by Chris Clayton. Both bases are from MDP

Mjolnir Haxelfrei

At last, something new Smile. Sorry about the lack of posting but things have been hectic recently. Anyway, on to the miniature. This is Mjolnir Haxelfrei from Hasslefree Miniatures painted for the HF painting contest on WAMP.

The paintjob was fairly straight forward but I had to do the snowy base twice as the first attempt was rubbish. I chose this model because it was Hasslefree Miniatures first mini and it’s also their first contest on WAMP. As always crits and comments welcome.

Hell hath no fury like a woman…

So I was happily painting my entry to WAMP2011 when I figured it wasn’t going as planned and the clean up would have been really pushing the deadline for the competition so one week before it had to be ready I started anew piece.

This is Noctura Models Freya. I chose to paint her with quite a stern, purposeful look like she has just sought revenge from the person who has scorned her but it didn’t go all her own way, hence the nick on her thigh which added to her annoyance.

This was a great model paint and the limited time helped me focus. I am no way claiming that this is my best work by far but for just one weeks work (Krigar took three months) I’m pretty proud of her.

I also used a lot of pigments on her cloak to weather it. These where artist pastels that I ground down with some sandpaper and applied with a bush.

As always critiques and comments are welcome Smile.

The plinth was provided by MDP and I sculpted the plaque.

Dark Sword Female Bard

DarkSword-Female-BardI finished this mini this evening and I can honestly say she was brilliant to paint, Nothing out of the ordinary, just really enjoyable on every level. Being honest she was a bit of a paint to put together but once done, great mini.

I have planned three Dark Sword Mini’s for the DS contest over on WAMP and she’s the first completed.

Crits and comments welcome as always and for those that are inclined to… http://www.coolminiornot.com/278284

AOW Chaos Ogre Conversion

AOW-Chaos-Ogre-Conversion-MontageOk, I have finally finished this mini, and it was getting a real struggle towards the end because I just wasn’t feeling it.
Not seen in the picture but I have painted the embroidery threads on the banner symbol.
Anyway, this was painted for the WAMP AOW contest. As always crits and comments welcome.

Frog Mage

Well the last few weeks have been really tough with one thing or another and painting has been one of the only things that I could turn to and switch off and relax.

Frog Mage has been a blast to paint and is a thank you present for my partner Sarah who has also had it tough but has been a tremendous help to me.

Krigar

Krigar01This bust was painted earlier this year and I was lucky enough to grab two competition wins with it. The First was a Gold in the Fantasy category at the South Cheshire Militaire and the Second was Best in Show for the WAMPED2010 contest.

Krigar was sculpted by Roberto Chaudon who made a great bust. Thanks also go out to War Griffon for his input during the painting process.
